The Two Important Historical Events

There are many important events that has happened within the years of history. It is hard to just pick two events just because there are so many I feel are just as important as the next. After reviewing my notes again, I feel that the two of the most important events in history are the 19th Amendment as well as the First American High School. Without these two events we wouldn’t be where we are today in the world. Today’s society shows the dependency and how much these two events really affected our country. These two historical moments changed how we live today and for the better.

The 19th Amendment was a very important Amendment because it gave women the opportunity to vote. It was a step towards ending the women’s suffrage movement. Women weren’t allowed to have any say because they were thought to not be as knowledgeable about things as men. “Men knew best” or so they thought. This gave women more power, and not just act as though they were only supposed to stay home and not have any say in anything. This allowed women to have their voices to be heard.  The 19th Amendment also lead to bigger and better things for women, they were allowed to attend school and much more. Within a few years, their equality to men had grown tremendously.

Like the 19th Amendment, the First American High School changed everything. Schooling allowed children to be educated and still be able to work for their families. These schools were meant for boys twelve and older and middle class. African American children were not allowed to go to this school because they were still expected to work and weren’t allowed to be educated. This school was an English classical school. The school was only in session 12 weeks out of the year due to the work that is needed to be done at the homes. Parents needed the children’s help as much as possible for farming and cropping as well as anything else around the house.

Nichole, you have chosen two interesting events. I am a little unsure how you see these connecting to schools today. The 19th Amdn. did not have to do with schools - it still could be a choice, but I did not see the connection. Additionally I was not sure if with the High School you were referring to Kalamazoo case, or the founding of the more elite high school. Again explaining a little more and how this opened doors would be important. Jo
